FAQs

Is there help recruiting apprentices?

TDM Wyre Academy can help you to recruit as many apprentices as you want. Similar to a recruitment agency, we will search for, filter, interview, test and shortlist suitable candidates for employers to interview. However, this is where any similarity to a recruitment agency ends – once the employer has selected their chosen candidate/s TDM then works with the employer and apprentice for a minimum of 12 months, providing individual learning plans, training, coaching, progress reviews, industry certifications, qualifications and further apprenticeship progression.

Are apprenticeships available for existing staff?

An apprentice doesn’t have to be someone new – one of your current staff could be an ideal candidate for an Apprenticeship. This is a great way to upskill and nurture the talent already in your organisation.

Do I have to provide any training?

The training you will have to provide is initial Health and Safety, workplace induction training and any job-specific or mandatory training for the role. Our trainers, work coaches and assessors will draw up the apprentices’ individual learning plan and deliver further agreed training and the qualification.

How much do I have to pay an apprentice?

Ideally, the employer should offer a salary that reflects the job role and the skills and experience of the candidate, whilst recognising the training opportunity being offered. All apprentices are employed, and have a contract of employment. A minimum wage of £3.30 per hour must be paid to all apprentices who are under 19 or in the first year of their apprenticeship programme. Employment must be for at least 30 hours per week. Apprentices are paid for time spent at work and also for time spent in training.

Is anything to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to take on apprentices?

SMEs as well as large companies can benefit from taking on an apprentice. TDM Wyre Academy offers a comprehensive range of support to help you recruit and train an apprentice, and further funding may be available to take on an apprentice through the Apprenticeship Grant for Employers (AGE) which can provide up to £1500 per apprentice. In some areas additional grants are also available to help with employment and training costs. The new apprenticeship standards attract employer intensives depending upon the size of company, age of apprentice and achievement – the TDM team will help your organisation access the funding to best maximise your organisations training.
